When the colder weather starts to come in you want to make sure you take all of the steps possible to protect the well-being of your car. If you don't take some of the proper steps then you can end up suffering the consequences which can lead to major issues and expensive repairs. Here are some of the things you want to do when you are preparing for colder weather:

Make room in the garage for the car

One of the things you should do to prepare for winter weather is to make room in your garage to park the car. When you park the car inside of the garage you won't have to worry about it getting damaged from hail or having branches getting blown on it and scratching it. Also, if you get snow where you live then you won't have to be concerned about having the car sit under the snow.

Change your tires

If you live where you get a lot of rain and/or snow where you are then you may want to swap out your tires for the season and have winter tires put on so you don't have to worry so much about sliding around on the road in certain conditions.

Change your oil

The beginning of winter is as good of a time as any to change your oil and you should consider having a thinner grade put in during the winter and a thicker grade put in during the summer. This is going to help to keep your car running as smoothly as possible.

Put new windshield wiper blades on

Your blades can become brittle during those hot summer months and if you don't check them then you can go to use them during the rainy winter only to find that they don't work as well as they should and this can make it hard for you to be able to see out the windshield clearly.

Don't ignore your car all winter

Even if you have a car that you normally don't drive regularly, you still want to make sure that car does get driven around a little bit throughout the winter. This is going to help prevent different problems from happening such as a dead battery, warped tires, electrical problems and problems with animals nesting in the motor and other compartments of the car while trying to find a warmer spot during those winter months.
